CODE OF CONDUCT

 
The goal of PECI is to help students acheive their full potential academically, socially, and physically. 
So that you can achieve that potential, you must follow the expectations stated below
:

ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
MUST:


      • attend all classes, be on time and prepared, unless you have a valid reason
        that has been approved by your teacher.  Students who have a spare are to
        be in the senior cafeteria, library, or outside of the building.

      • explain all absences from school through a written/verbal report from your
        parent/guardian.

      • be courteous and co-operative to all school staff, fellow students, and
        visitors.  No inappropriate language/comment/gesture/harassment/
        bullying/fighting of any kind.

      • respect all personal/public/school property, including books and desks.

      • act in a responsible and acceptable manner while travelling on the school
        bus.  School rules apply.

      • consume food/drink in the cafeteria only.  Water is allowed in halls/
        classrooms except for science/computer labs.

      • report to the vice-principal any damage or vandalism to your locker within 24
        hours.  Lockers are your responsibility.

ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
MUST NOT:


      • use tobacco on school property.  Drug or alcohol use is not permitted on or off
        school property at any time.

      • dress inappropriately (tops meet bottoms).  No revealing or suggestive clothing or
        clothing with profanity/evocative language/graphics.

      • wear head gear (hats/hoodies/sunglasses) in the school for any reason. 
        Hats/coats/backpacks must be left in your locker.

      • use skateboards or wear rollerblades or similar footwear on school property.

      • use Cell phones, MP3s, iPods, and other similar electronic devices in classrooms
        without explicit permission from the teacher, and then they are only to be used as
        they relate to the instructional activities and practises for that specific period.

      • capture digital images and/or recordings without the explicit permission of the
        person(s) involved.

      • display inappropriate affection anywhere on school property.

In addition to expectations during the school day, all students are expected to follow the PECI Code of Conduct at all school functions, such as trips, dances, sporting events etc.

STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR

RESPECT, CIVILITY, AND RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP

Responsible citizenship involves appropriate participation in the civic life of the school community.  Active and engaged citizens are aware of their rights, but more importantly, they accept responsibility for protecting their rights and the rights of others.

ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
MUST:


      • Must respect and comply with all applicable federal, provincial, and
        municipal laws.

      • Must demonstrate honesty and integrity.

      • Must respect differences in people, their ideas, and their opinions.

      • Must treat one another with dignity and respect at all times, and especially
        when there is a disagreement.

      • Must respect and treat others fairly, regardless of, for example, race,
        ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, religion, gender,
        sexual orientation, age, or disability.

      • Must respect the rights of others.

      • Must show proper care and regard for school property and the property of
        others.

      • Must take appropriate measures to help those in need.

      • Must seek assistance from a member of the school staff, if necessary, to
        resolve conflict peacefully.

      • Must respect all members of the school community, especially persons in
        positions of authority.

      • Must respect the need of others to work in an environment that is conducive
        to learning and teaching.

SAFETY

All students, parents, teachers, and staff members have the right to be safe, and to feel safe, in their school community.  With this right comes the responsibility to contribute to a positive school climate.

 

ALL MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
MUST NOT:


      • Must not engage in bullying activities.

      • Must not swear at a teacher or at another person in a position of authority.

      • Must not commit sexual assault.

      • Must not traffic weapons or illegal drugs.

      • Must not give alcohol to a minor.

      • Must not commit robbery.

      • Must not be in possession of any weapon, including firearms.

      • Must not use any object to threaten or intimidate another person.

      • Must not cause injury to any person with an object.

      • Must not be in possession of, or under the influence of, or provide others with
        alcohol or illegal drugs.

      • Must not inflict or encourage others to inflict bodily harm on another person.

      • Must not engage in hate propaganda and other forms of behavior motivated by
        hate or bias.

      • Must not commit an act of vandalism that causes extensive damage to school
        property or to property located on the premises of the school.
