eLearning @ PECI
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) is committed to providing all students with access to high-quality learning opportunities. E-learning is an innovative way to access courses that may not be available in a student’s home school. It also offers flexibility while helping students develop valuable transferable skills, such as time management, organization, independent learning, and digital literacy.
HPEDSB e-learning courses are delivered through the Desire2Learn (D2L) platform, a state-of-the-art learning management system. Students use this platform to access course materials, complete assignments, and communicate with their teachers and classmates. Through collaboration with other schools across the province, we offer 30+ different e-learning courses each year. Additionally, many post-secondary institutions use similar e-learning platforms, meaning these experiences help prepare students for future academic and career opportunities.
E-learning courses may be available to students when a course is not offered in their home school, and approval must be granted by their guidance counselor and school principal or vice-principal.
Because e-learning differs from a traditional classroom environment, students who are most successful in e-learning tend to:
-
Complete and submit assignments on time.
-
Stay organized and effectively manage their time.
-
Have access to reliable technology for research and coursework.
-
Work well independently with minimal supervision.
-
Collaborate positively with peers and build healthy online relationships.
-
Set personal learning goals and seek assistance when needed.
-
Show perseverance and problem-solving skills when facing challenges.
For more information about e-learning opportunities, students and families are encouraged to speak with their school's guidance department.
