Welcome to Prince Edward County’s Collegiate Institute (PECI) in Picton, ON. We take pride in developing leadership and student excellence in each of our four pillars: Academics, Athletics, Arts, and Technology. We have a caring staff who are engaging and supportive. Our school motto is “Inspiring Excellence,” and it is our goal to ensure all students are learning and realizing their potential each and every day. PECI maintains a strong focus on meeting the needs of today’s learners as we prepare them for a range of post-secondary pursuits. We place high importance on the development of effective learning skills and critical thinking skills in students. In the supportive atmosphere at PECI, students are encouraged not to accept less than their best and to strive for continuous improvement. We provide a teaching and learning environment that ensures that learning conditions are in place that afford all students an opportunity to meet those goals.
To enhance the regular complement of academic courses, PECI offers the Panther Venture Enrichment Program and Advanced Placement Courses where
motivated students are provided with opportunities to engage with like-minded peers, and challenge their thinking. This is an exceptional program that will prepare students for post-secondary learning environments, and also enrich their daily experiences at school. We are also proud of our Dual Credit Programs. Prince Edward Collegiate has over 100 college credits earned by students still attending PECI thanks to our partnerships with Loyalist and St. Lawrence Colleges. PECI also has a focus program in the area of Technology titled “Trading Up.” This program provides students with opportunities to take construction credits while at the same time, gaining valuable certifications that will be highly beneficial as they seek out summer employment, post secondary education, apprenticeships or enter the world or work.
Dual Credit opportunities in business and the culinary arts areas are available through our partnership with Loyalist College. A broad range of courses in the arts, business and computers, physical and health education, technology, fashion, food services, photography, co-op, and the Eco-Quest program prepare students for post-secondary success.
Student literacy and mathematical computation/reasoning skills are key areas of focus at PECI, and the success of this focus is reflected in the sustained achievement of our students. We are committed to continuous improvement in programming and facilities. Our campus continues to receive ongoing renovations to revitalize the learning environment. In addition to a full complement of updated classrooms, computer labs, an extensive library, three gymnasiums, art studios, aesthetics lab, technology shops and a weightroom, we have a variety of Student Success supports and resources to support student learning in all pathways.
Panther athletics rule! Students have opportunities to participate and learn through a wide variety of sports, both competitively through extra-curricular teams as well through the various Physical Education classes that are offered each semester. We believe itis importantto work hard and play hard. Healthy bodies fuel healthy minds, and we encourage all students to get involved in something that interests them.
There is strong community support for PECI, as evidenced by the variety and number of both formal and informal partnerships. We are very proud of the extensive efforts of our school community, students and staff, to support community needs, both locally and abroad. In short, we are a community school and we value highly the relationship between our students, staff, parents and community overall.
At PECI, we aspire to prepare our students for the opportunities of today and tomorrow and we take pride in showcasing our Panthers’ learning in action! We update our information regularly on our website, and we invite you to ‘Like’ us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. In closing, we believe that the most important people in the world walk the halls of PECI, and we look forward learning with you as we enjoy Panther experience together in 2016-17!
