Cooperative education is a planned learning experience that integrates classroom theory and learning experiences of the work place. Co-op enables students to apply and refine the knowledge and skills acquired in a related curriculum course or locally developed course to a co-op placement. The cooperative education courses are valuable to all students as they are designed to suit the student’s strengths, interests and needs and to enhance the student’s preparation for the future. All prospective co-op students must complete an application at course selection time and take a formal interview to determine their suitability for the program.
Cooperative Education Credits
While 1,2,3, or 4 co-op credits are possible, most students complete 2 or 4 credits by working half or full days at a co-op placement. A minimum of 110 hours must be completed for each co-op credit. This includes preemployment training, regularly scheduled in-class instructional days and work placement time.
