Panther Pride - County Wide!

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) students show their Panther Pride through our attitude, academics, arts, athletics and activities in a community environment. Last year, Prince Edward Collegiate Institute students and staff fund raised thousands of dollars for local, national and international charities. In Athletics, Panther student-athletes participated in Bay of Quinte, COSSA and OFFSA athletic events. Our Arts and ACE Arts Plus Program hosted an Arts Celebration Evening and continued Prince Edward Collegiate Institute’s tradition of partnering with local organizations to bring Arts into our community. Prince Edward Collegiate’s Venture Academic Enrichment Program and University Advanced Placement are part of a strong academic program that honours all pathways and supports all students in their achievement. Prince Edward Collegiate encourages students to participate in the outstanding events and activities that occur throughout the school year. Participation in our many clubs, athletics, arts and activities contributes to academic success and enhances the high school experience.

The Arts

Visual Arts

Do you like to express yourself, think creatively and experiment with materials to find out more about yourself and the world around you? Visual Arts courses give you a chance to draw, paint, sculpt, print, explore mixed media, take photographs, make videos and graphic designs. Learn about art of the Western World, Canada and other Cultures! Courses in the Visual Arts combine practical, hands on learning with theory and analysis. Awaken your imagination – express yourself!

Students at PECI can choose from a wide variety of music courses including band and guitar. Students enrolled in band courses perform both popular and traditional repertoire and learn to compose and analyze music from a wide variety of musical eras. In guitar, students learn rock, blues and classical guitar songs. They also write their own songs and play in small ensembles. PECI also has a number of extra-curricular music ensembles for students to join including a concert band, jazz band and string ensemble which compete in local music festivals, perform at school and participate in community events.

There are several opportunities to get involved in theatre and drama at PECI. In addition to offering quality courses and curriculum in the classroom, with several opportunities to develop your skills and perform in front of live audiences, PECI produces and performs at least one extra-curricular performance every year. All students are able to audition for these extra-curricular productions, regardless of their experience or background in drama. As well as having opportunities to perform, students have the opportunity to work behind the scenes as assistant stage managers, props, costume organizers, set design and front of house management.

Academic Opportunities and Activities

Mathematics Contests

Each February, students in the grade 9 and 10 Venture Program write the University of Waterloo’s Pascal and Cayley Mathematics Contests. Students in grade 11 and 12 mathematics classes are also invited to write the University of Waterloo’s Fermat and Euclid Mathematics Contests in February and April, respectively. Some students may also choose to write the Sun Life Financial Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge in November. All of these contests serve as an enrichment opportunity that allow the students to problem solve and to “think outside of the box” in order to solve challenging mathematical questions.

Make Poverty History

Make Poverty History is a student-run group that was formed in 2005 by students enrolled in the Grade 12 World Issues course. Through the organization Free the Children, the students in Make Poverty History support the Enerlerai Primary School; a small school consisting of 96 students in Enelerai, Kenya. Every year, Make Poverty History members hold numerous fundraisers to help pay for the school’s teacher, classroom equipment and other items that assist in the development of the community. Other fundraisers held by Make Poverty History include the annual Christmas Dinner, the selling of roses for Valentine’s Day and an upcoming coin drive to raise money for the installment of chimneys in Enerlerai residents’ homes. Make Poverty History is a group that is determined to end poverty by ensuring that others are well-educated and cared for.

Student's Council

Food For Thought From Your Student’s Council Executive

As members of Prince Edward Collegiate Institute Student’s Council, we aim to make your time in high school active and memorable. We believe it is important for our fellow students to seize the opportunities made available through the staff, students and parents within our school community.

Whether you are interested in athletics, music, helping others through charities, performing, academics, or simply taking part in the many spirit events, there is something for everyone at PECI. Our goal is to provide a variety of events to add some extra fun to your school year. From lunch time activities and dress-up days to supercharged spirit weeks and school wide events, we aim to keep your spirits soaring.

But we can’t do it alone. It is up to you to take part in these events: support your classmates by attending their performances, dress up to earn points for your home room, put on your panther wear and cheer on our sports teams.

“Don’t let your time at PECI pass you by — get up, get involved, meet new people, enjoy yourself and show your panther pride!”
