2015 Winter Exams & Final Culminating Activity Information

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute Exams and Final Written Culminating Activities will be written as follows:

  • Pd. 1 - Wed. Jan. 21st Beginning at 12:00 p.m. with shortened classes for Pd. 2, 4 and 5 in the morning
  • Pd. 2 - Thurs. Jan. 22nd Beginning at 8:30 a.m.
  • Pd. 4 - Fri. Jan. 23rd Beginning at 8:30 a.m.
  • Pd. 5 - Mon. Jan. 26th Beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Please review the following information for students regarding exams available by clicking here.  In particular, please note our school protocol for absence due to illness.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have questions- we are here to help.

Next School Council Meeting Is Tues. Feb. 10th

Calling all engaged parents who want to be difference makers!  Our next School Council Meeting is Tuesday February 10th from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  New members are always welcome.  Please come out and learn about all of the exciting opportunities that exist in your community school.  Let's embrace the festive season together!

PECI Proudly Presents "Rudolph- Behind The Red Nose"

The Drama Department at PECI is proud to present an original production "Rudolph- Behind The Red Nose".  This Christmas comedy is certain to engage all audiences and we look forward to you joining us here at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute as we embrace the Christmas Season together.

Performance Dates:  

December 12th and 13th - Curtains open at 7:00 p.m.

December 14th  Matinee - Curtains open at 1:00 p.m.

Tickets are $5.00 and available at Books and Company as well as at the door.

Student Vote - Your Voice Counts This Thursday

Attention all students; be sure that your voice with regard to the upcoming Municipal Elections.  The PECI Student Vote will be held this Thursday morning in period one.  Results will be shared as pre-poll indicator of student perspectives in Prince Edward County.  Please see Mr. Windfeld for further details.

Student Allergy Info. Requested

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, there will be various renovation projects occurring over the course of the school year here at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute.  In accordance with HPEDSB Procedure 568 - Installation and Application of Building Materials (Procedure 568), if your son/daughter has any specific allergies to dust, paint or other possible building/renovation materials, please contact the school as soon as possible in order that an appropriate plan can be put in place.  

Further, if your son/daughter has any updated medical information that would be helpful for the school to have, please contact the school at any time.  Your student's safety is our number one priority!

School Council Meeting

Calling All Invested Parents!!!  The first school council meeting of the 2014-15 school year is this coming Tuesday September 30th from 6:30 - 7:30.  Come out and learn about the exciting events and activities happening in the Panther environment.  We are looking for your interest and support only - there is NO FUNDRAISING INVOLVED in our council.

Grade 9 Fall Family BBQ & Parent Information Night RSVP

PECI is proud to invite all Grade 9 Panther families to our Fall Family BBQ and Information Night to be held Thursday September 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Please plan to come out and enjoy a complimentary BBQ with our staff to welcome you to the Panther Environment.  Following the BBQ, there will be an opportunity to follow your student's timetable, see their classrooms and hear an overview from the teacher.  Please note there will be an opportunity for more thorough conversations with our teachers later this Fall at Parent/Guardian/Teacher Interviews.

Teamwork in Trading-Up

Students in the Trading Up program show excellent teamwork this week glueing up components for 2 new benches. The benches will replace the worn ones in gym A. See Mr. Ronan or Mrs. Phoenix-Renz in guidance for details of this great program where students learn essential trade skills and receive on- the-job work experience.

 

Track and Field

The track and field team competed at the Bay of Quinte Championships yesterday posting some excellent results. Midget girls Olivia Crouse and Vanessa Willis placed 2nd and 3rd in javelin and 3rd and 5th in discus while Vanessa is the shotput champion. Midget boys Aidan Wallwork, Noah McConnell, Carter Whittaker and Andrew Ward placed 1st, 2nd 4th and 6th at javelin. Senior boys Seth Van Vlack and Mitch Reid 2nd and 3rd in long jump. Trista Mckee-Arlidge came 1st in 100m and 800m for visually impaired with special guide Lynsey Corbin. Junior boy Josh Stechniki placed 1st and 2nd and 2nd in long jump, 100m and triple jump. Midget boy Keneil Warren continued to rip up the track with 1st place in 100 and 200m. What an excellent day of competition by our athletes. Good luck next week at COSSA.​

Spring Art's Night

PECI's second semester Arts' Night and Relay for Life fund raiser was held on Thursday, May 22nd at PECI. The audience of over 200 were thrilled by performances from Mr Palmer's Guitar class, Mr Sheahan's grade 9 and 10 Drama classes, and by the art on display from Ms Henderson's and Ms Buggie's Art classes.

One highlight of the evening was the recognition of Cynara Lewis from Ms Clarke's Photography class, who won the gold medal at the Provincial Skills Competition in Photography, and will be going on to compete Nationally. Whether it was dramatically, musically, or artistically, these Panthers made us very proud!

International Business Conference

Eighteen grade 12 International Business students participated in the Free Trade of the Americas Conference at Isaiah Tubbs Resort on Tuesday May 27. Each student had to argue on behalf of their host nation whether or not joining a larger free trading area was beneficial or harmful. The debates were lively and the discussion was very intelligent. Congratulations to all student involved for a great learning experience!

Bay of Quinte Championship

For the third time in four years, the PECI baseball team has captured the Bay of Quinte Championship. The boys beat Saint Theresa 6 – 0 in the championship game in front of a packed Field of Dreams diamond in Wellington on Tuesday.

ATV Time in Auto Shop

It's ATV time in the transportation shop! Tyler Moore, James Tuttle, Zeb Snider and Riley Greer have all had fun working on the various vehicles in the auto shop. They got a chance to work on their own vehicles and gained valuable real-life experience. Great work guys!

 

The P.A.R.T.Y. Program

The P.A.R.T.Y. Program (Preventing Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) is an informative and engaging in-hospital site based program designed to educate Grade 10 students about the consequences of a variety of risk related behaviours (distracted driving, drinking and driving, not wearing protective gear and lack of seatbelt use). Students observed and participated in reality based accident scene management, emergency room procedures and the reality of post accident scene rehabilitation. The overall objective of this outstanding program is to prevent and reduce risks and to provide students with the opportunity to realize the potential consequences of risk related behaviour.

 

Lunch For Habitat Volunteers

On Friday May 30th at 11:30 am, PECI foods teacher delivered lunch to the Habitat for Humanity construction site in Picton. Students in the Senior foods program, who focus on international cuisine, selected a Greek-themed menu and prepared lunch for 15 hardworking volunteers. There was even food left over to share with the neighbours at the York St. construction site.
